Mary Beasley, CPA*
A Colorado girl born and raised in a little place called Aspen (if you know you know), I decided to venture outside to the deep south and earned both my Master of Accountancy and BBA in Accounting at Millsaps College, in Jackson, Mississippi. After interning in KPMG’s audit practice in Jackson, I accepted a full-time offer with the firm and started my career in the summer of 2016. I transferred to the Austin office in 2018 where I fell in love with the city. During my three years at KPMG, I worked mainly in the public sector on real estate and manufacturing clients.
I learned the value of hard teamwork during my time at KPMG and had the privilege of working with some of the smartest people and clients. However, I knew early on that auditing was not a long-term career goal for me. I transitioned into industry practice in 2019 and began working for a public REIT that focused on student housing. It was there I fell in love with real estate accounting but knew quickly that industry and the redundancy was not for me. When I was first introduced to Embark, I knew that this was the type of firm I wanted to work for one that helps clients solve their problems, rather than create them. Here, I can leverage all my skills and experiences to identify various ways to make my clients’ lives easier.
Outside of work I love spending time outdoors and traveling. You can’t take the Colorado out of the girl and I still very much love visiting family and spending my time skiing/hiking/camping. In Austin I love grabbing drinks, playing tennis or pickle ball, diving into the live music scene, and taking advantage of the temperate year-round weather.
